Could any place be more beautiful?

Highland cattle are referred to as "hairy coos." It's unbelievable how cute they are in person.
They are nice unless you touch their horns, and then watch out. We fed them shortbread.

We'd have stayed all day with the hairy coos if Graham had let us.

Glencoe, a nationally protected area with only three houses inside, is a deep glaciated valley gouged out between the rugged mountains. The famous clan massacre of the MacDonalds by the Campbells happened here. (The Campbells' action was viewed as so treacherous that even today, some pubs hang signs saying, "No Campbells.")  We had a wonderful picnic lunch on a mountainside there.

My favorite Scotsman enjoys Glenelg.

cairns.jpg

Ancient burial mounds called Clava Cairns. When you encounter something older than the pyramids in the middle of a farmer's field, it makes you feel your own insignificance.

Sligachan Bridge on Skye, where the sickness hit me

And since I screwed up the Isle of Skye by being sick, I'll have to link to someone else's photos, until some of my fellow backpackers share theirs.
